Signs You May Be Feeling Stressed Leading Up to Your Wedding: Snappy, irritable, overwhelmed, easily annoyed or frustrated, struggling to focus, mind on overdrive?

Firstly, let me clarify. It's completely normal to encounter a mixed bag of emotions during the wedding planning journey, it’s natural to feel a bit stressed as your big day approaches. Every couple has experienced it.

Here are 5 valuable tips to help bring calm and clarity to your planning process.

Tip 1: Revisit Your Priorities

Ask yourselves: What truly matters most on our wedding day?

When planning feels overwhelming, returning to these priorities can help you refocus and stay calm.

While it’s natural to consider family and friends' input, don’t let others' expectations eclipse your vision. This day is about celebrating your love story.

Your wedding vision is your compass. A well-defined moodboard can serve as your road map

Define your non-negotiables together, and keep revisiting your vision—it’s the road map that will guide your decisions and bring clarity. Knowing your top priorities will simplify choices, keep the planning process enjoyable, and ensure the day feels authentic to you both.

Tip 2: Delegate wisely and Let Go

Planning stress often comes from trying to control every detail. To lighten the load, start by delegating tasks wherever you can. Lean on your bridal party, family, or coordinator—they’re there to support you!

Here’s how to delegate effectively:

  1. Make a list of tasks others can handle and match them to people’s strengths.

  2. Assign a timeline for updates, and add a “check-in” date to your calendar.

  3. Once assigned, trust them to handle it. Let go, knowing it’s in good hands!

Trust the team you’ve built, and allow them to play a part in bringing your vision to life.

Your main role is to savour the day, not to manage every small detail. Embrace the support, and focus on what matters most!

Tip 3: Take Intentional Breaks

When wedding planning feels overwhelming, take a step back to prevent your mind from going into overdrive. Planning a wedding involves a lot, so it’s essential to pause regularly. Take a deep breath, and do something you enjoy—go for a walk, listen to music, have lunch out, or engage in a favourite activity.

Here are two ways to ease the mental load during this time:

  • Get it Down on Paper: Jot down the thoughts and ideas circling in your mind. Writing things down can help unpack and release the mental load, bringing clarity to the planning process.

  • Talk it Out: Chatting with your partner or a close friend can help clarify things you may be unsure about and support decision-making.

Taking regular breaks will help you return to planning with renewed focus and less stress.

Tip 4: Focus on Your Relationship, Not Just the Wedding

A happy couple sits close together in a café, laughing and holding black coffee mugs, enjoying a lighthearted moment during a break from wedding planning.

Wedding planning can bring up a mix of emotions—while exciting, it can also be stressful for some couples. Make time to connect with your partner throughout the journey.

Enjoy a date night, discuss future plans, or just relax together. Remember, your wedding is a celebration of your bond. Nurturing your relationship now will help you feel more connected, calm, and joyful leading up to the big day.

Tip 5: Be Realistic and Flexible with Your Expectations

It’s easy to get swept up in perfection during planning, but remember that things may not go exactly as planned. Embrace flexibility, and remind yourself that small hiccups are normal. Focus on the joy of the day rather than aiming for perfection. Staying realistic with your expectations can help you feel more prepared and less stressed.

On my wedding day, my hairstylist didn’t deliver the agreed-upon style. Time was tight, and I had a choice: dwell on what went wrong or focus on what truly mattered. I realised the hairstyle still looked lovely, so I chose to enjoy the day. That shift in mindset made all the difference.

Sometimes, it’s the small changes in perspective that allow us to fully enjoy the day.

Your perspective is key
